ecgAUTO was very important for the completion of several of our studies including the one on the electrical remodelling of mice overexpressing the human type 1 angiotensin II receptor (AT1R) specifically in cardiomyocytes. In this study, we examined AT1R mice before and after the development of hypertrophy and demonstrated that chronic stimulation of AT1R directly leads to an increased incidence of cardiac arrhythmia associated with delayed repolarization. ecgAUTO simplified and speeded-up the analysis of the surface and telemetry recorded ECGs. Using this software, we were able to determine very efficiently parameters such as QT interval and QRS complex duration as well as monitor spontaneous ventricular arrhythmias.

Importantly, ecgAUTO, with the proper plug-in, is able to read data acquired on other systems. At some points we needed to convert data acquired on another acquisition system. Thanks to the emka TECHNOLOGIES staff, this was done in a timely fashion. We were very pleased with the technical support provided by emka TECHNOLOGIES. ecgAUTO is in constant evolution and requests from researchers could be incorporated into the software. ecgAUTO is the only software used by our group to analyze ECGs.

emka TECHNOLOGIES with its semi-automated hardware and software platform (iox and datanalyst) has completely transformed my isolated tissue bath laboratory. The system has increased our throughput without compromising data quality. The emka TECHNOLOGIES platform is flexible, user friendly and extremely reliable.

Waveform recognition technology has been critical to the success of my lab's evaluation of drug-induced alterations in cardiac repolarization. The ability to define the fiducial points of interest from the waveform of an individual animal is very important. Our published results show that the automated analysis nearly doubled measurement accuracy compared to trained manual measurements.1 Not only does this allow us to detect single digit changes in repolarization times, but does so in a fraction of the time it would take by manual methods.

iox software appears to have been designed by the end user. It provides a number of built-in features (automatic beat-to-beat heart rate, pressure, blood flow and resistance calculations) that are at best difficult to do with other software systems. Alarm features ensure problems with data collection (temperature fluctuations, altered parameters, etc.) are immediately noticed by the operator. While the built-in features are remarkable, the system retains the flexibility to handle new inputs and outputs and integrate them into ongoing experiments.

The software is GLP-compliant, ensuring that original data files cannot be altered yet an extensive replay ability allows the user to easily examine specific experimental events at other speeds or to gather additional data features rapidly by increasing the replay speed. In each case newly generated data retains the connection to the original data file.

The ability to collect data from multiple animals or from the same animal all under different schedules or sampling rates has greatly improved productivity in long-term continuous hemodynamic monitoring.

We utilize this software for a rodent surgical techniques course because much of the software is intuitive and students can easily use it in a hands-on environment.

emka TECHNOLOGIES personnel provide extensive on-site training and further assistance is always available.

Since settings and analysis can be standardized with commercial software, we chose ECG-auto by EMKA Technology (EMKA Technologies SA, Paris, France). This software performs fast, reliable, field-tested, in-depth ECG analysis with full user control. It allows fast Fourier transform (FFT)-based time-domain analysis and frequency-domain study with beat-by-beat control and review.
