The Heart Rate Variability (HRV) module in ecgAUTO performs advanced frequency domain analysis of cardiovascular electrophysiology signals using the Fast Fourier Transform (FFT).
This approach permits detailed analysis of heart rate changes with great sensitivity and helps scientists visualise comprehensive datasets in the time and frequency domains.
FFT analysis is a powerful technique performed on signals that are ideally periodic and infinite. In preclinical studies, the data under investigation are typically finite, irregular, and often noisy. To reduce the discontinuities presented by these signals, advanced windowing techniques are applied to treat the boundaries of each dataset.
This Technical Note compares four different windowing approaches available in ecgAUTO.
