Techniques & Measurements

easyDAC device can acquire a mix of physiological signals:

  • Biopotential signals from external electrodes or emka digital telemetry
  • Respiratory signal from the vivoFlow plethysmograph
  • Blood pressure signal from digital telemetry or strain-gauge transducers
  • Force signal from strain-gauge transducers
  • Temperature from emka digital telemetry
  • Activity from emka digital telemetry
  • Any analog signals

Biopotential electrodes

Biopotential signals (single or multi-lead) coming from external electrodes are acquired through peripheral devices called PODs, which are connected to the easyDAC.

Data transfer to the computer is done via an USB .

Outcomes
  • ECG
  • EEG
  • EMG

Digital telemetry

Signals coming from easyTEL+ implants are acquired through peripheral devices called PODs, which are connected to the easyDAC.

Data transfer to the computer is done via an USB .

Outcomes
  • ECG, EEG, EMG, EOG
  • Blood pressure
  • Temperature
  • Activity

vivoFlow

In unrestrained whole body plethysmography (WBP), the spontaneously breathing subject moves freely within a small, closed plethysmograph chamber. Changes in pressure within the chamber along with the flow in and out of the box are measured using pressure transducers and pneumotachographs.

Temperature and humidity can also be recorded to compensate thermodynamic effects in the chamber.

Directly connected to the easyDAC, the vivoFlow acts as a POD. Data transfer to the computer is done via an USB .

Outcomes
  • Breathing frequency (f) and duration,
  • Estimates of tidal volume (TV)
  • Minute ventilation (MV)
  • Enhanced pause (Penh):  dimensionless quantity
  • Cough detection

Pre-amplified analog signal

The easyDAC device is used as an interface between a pre-amplified transducer and the acquisition computer. It provides high resolution analog-to-digital conversion and transfers data to the computer via USB.

Strain-gauge signal

The easyDAC device, can power strain gauge transducer, then amplifiy and digitize its signal and transfer the data to the computer via USB.

Outcomes
  • Force
  • Blood Pressure
  • etc.

External triggering & control

The easyDAC is used as an interface between any device sending or receiving TTL signals and the acquisition computer running IOX2 acquisition software. It is plugged to the computer with a simple USB .

Up to 8 TTL signals can be sent/received by the easyDAC, through the DB9 port connector.

TTL signals, meaning “Transistor-Transistor logic”, have 2 logic levels: low and high, corresponding to 0 and 5 V. Level changes (rising or falling edges) can be used to trigger actions in IOX software (starting/stopping recording of analog signals and calculated data, starting/stopping video , adding marks) or to control external devices.
